Siri’s AI Upgrade: What Went Wrong?

Apple initially planned to roll out AI-powered Siri enhancements in April 2025. However, due to bugs and engineering issues, the company has now pushed it back to 2026 or later.

Here’s why this delay is a big deal:

📌 Apple promoted the AI features too early – They showcased them at WWDC 2024 before the tech was fully functional.
📌 The system only works 66-80% of the time – Meaning 1 in 3 requests fail, which is unacceptable for a product launch.
📌 Apple was forced to delay key AI features – Some improvements may not even arrive until iOS 19 in 2026.

Walker admitted that Apple’s marketing team pushed AI features in ads too soon, making the situation even worse.

While Apple dominates hardware innovation, their AI development has been slow compared to rivals.

My Take: Apple’s AI Ambitions Are Harder to Achieve

In my opinion, the real issue is that Apple is aiming for something much more complex than its competitors.

🔹 While Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI are focused on creating AI tools, Apple’s goal is to deeply integrate AI into its ecosystem.
🔹 Apple wants AI to help users execute complicated tasks across multiple apps, rather than just answering questions or generating text.
🔹 From an engineering perspective, this approach is far more difficult than simply building a chatbot or standalone AI tool.

This explains why Apple is moving slowly—but the question is, can they afford to?

Final Thoughts: Will Users Wait for Apple’s AI?

Apple’s slow AI rollout is disappointing, but their commitment to deeper system integration could pay off in the long run.

📉 Short term: Apple is losing ground to rivals, and iPhone sales may suffer without compelling AI upgrades.
