M4 MacBook Air: Faster, Smudge-Free, and Stunning in Sky Blue

Apple’s new M4 MacBook Air is more than just a performance upgrade—it finally fixes the fingerprint issue that plagued the midnight M2 model. Plus, with power close to the M4 MacBook Pro, it’s shaping up to be one of the best MacBooks yet.
1️⃣ No More Smudge Problems on the Midnight MacBook Air
When Apple introduced the midnight M2 MacBook Air in 2022, fans loved the near-black finish—until they realized it attracted fingerprints like a magnet. Even the most careful users couldn’t keep it clean.
Apple partially fixed this with the M3 MacBook Air, adding an anodization seal to reduce smudging. But since they kept selling the M2 version without the fix, the problem lingered.
Now, with the M4 MacBook Air replacing both models, every midnight MacBook Air will have the improved finish—finally ending the smudge nightmare.
2️⃣ Performance Nearly Matches the M4 MacBook Pro
The M4 MacBook Air isn’t just cleaner—it’s also much faster. Benchmarks show that its M4 chip delivers near-Pro-level power:
- M4 MacBook Air: 54,846
- M4 MacBook Pro (10-core): 57,788
That’s an incredibly small gap, meaning the Air now offers serious performance for a lightweight machine.
However, there’s a key difference:
- The MacBook Air has a single fan for cooling.
- The MacBook Pro has dual fans, making it better for sustained heavy workloads.
For everyday tasks, the Air will be blazing fast, but under extreme workloads, it could throttle slightly due to its cooling limitations.
3️⃣ My Take: Should You Upgrade?
Here’s my personal opinion on whether it’s worth upgrading:
✅ If you're using an M1 MacBook Air, this is a great time to upgrade. The M4 brings a noticeable performance boost, better display, and improved battery life.
🤔 If you have an M2 or M3 MacBook Air, I wouldn’t rush to upgrade just yet. The improvements are nice, but they may not be significant enough to justify the cost.
💻 For first-time buyers, I definitely recommend the M4 MacBook Air. It offers the best balance of performance, portability, and price.
As for the M4 MacBook Pro, I think it’s mostly for professional users handling heavy workloads like video editing, 3D rendering, or software development. Personally, I’d rather buy the MacBook Air—it’s lighter and more portable, making it a better everyday laptop.
Final Thoughts: A Stunning Upgrade
The M4 MacBook Air continues to be the best budget laptop from my point of view. And while Midnight now looks better than before, I personally love the new Sky Blue color. It’s fresh, modern, and gives the MacBook Air a unique look that stands out.
